WORLD BEVERAGE INNOVATION AWARDS

Fords took a clean sweep at this year’s World Beverage Innovation Awards winning the award for Best Closure for our bottle neck and cap design. In addition we submitted two further designs with our partners Krones AG for the awards of Best bottle in PET and Best packaging design/label, for the Droplet shaped PET Bottle featuring the Fords design. It is our pleasure to say that Krones AG won both these awards.
 
Collecting the award at BrauBeviale in Germany was our CEO, Laura Whincup & Commercial Director, Duncan Harris. The judges highlighted our sustainability and innovation credentials, saying that "the improved lightweighting flexible opening widths and design possibilities, a better mouthfeel and easier recycling feels like a welcome list of attributes for PET bottles,” and that we had developed "a simple idea, executed well, which will continue to influence the packaging and closure industry."
 
Winning this award is a huge accolade for Fords and a recognition of the innovative solutions we are developing to bring a unique range of benefits to brand owners and consumers, in sustainability, consumer experience and packaging innovation. With the single serve water bottle the foil geometry and bottle seal surface are designed in tandem to deliver a balance of high burst resistance and easy peel, giving consumers of all age demographics an easy opening package. The foil seal delivers the final stage of bottle weight reduction by removing threads from the neck finish. Combined with elimination of the plastic screw cap and tamper evident band, it delivers the lowest package weight in the market. Recycling of the used PET bottle is easier without mixed plastics and the peeled foil is recycled together with metal cans.
